Burlington Boss Hogs Kick Off Season with Impressive Victory

Written by Dale Walters and Adam Ireland

The Burlington Boss Hogs opened their 2023 season with a bang, hosting the Austin Oilers in an out-of-division clash that left fans on the edge of their seats. While this matchup appeared evenly matched on paper, it was the Boss Hogs who emerged victorious, showcasing their potential as a formidable force in the league.

Led by the stellar performances of Quarterback Justin Herbert, running back Nick Chubb, and the relentless New York Jets defense, the Boss Hogs demonstrated their firepower from the first snap to the final whistle.

Herbert, who’s known for his precision passing and football IQ, lived up to his reputation, orchestrating the offense with poise and accuracy. Chubb bulldozed through the Oilers’ defense, showing incredible strength and vision, making him a constant threat in the backfield.

However, it was the Boss Hogs’ defense and special teams that truly stole the show. They were nothing short of exceptional, causing turnovers, applying relentless pressure on the Austin offense, and even contributing points on the scoreboard.

After the game, Boss Hogs’ owner and coach, Jacob Lange, shared his thoughts on the team’s performance. He praised the defense and special teams, emphasizing their crucial role in securing the victory. Lange also acknowledged some issues in the running back and tight end positions and expressed his hope that they could be rectified as the season progresses.

Lange couldn’t help but mention the injury bug that seemed to be plaguing his running backs, humorously quipping, “We are hoping it’s not a trend when we draft Baltimore running backs that they tear their ACL.” It’s evident that the team is hoping for better luck in that department moving forward.

Looking ahead to the next game, Lange expressed his optimism about the potential return of star wide receiver Christian Watson. He believes that Watson’s presence on the field will make a significant impact and set the tone for the upcoming games. Lange also hinted at a possible quarterback battle within the team, adding an exciting dimension to their already impressive roster.

Chemistry within the team seems to be at an all-time high, with Lange stating, “I think these Hogs are ready to battle the devil dogs (Los Angeles USMC) and bring home the W to the East Coast in Week 2.” The Boss Hogs are clearly geared up for their next challenge, ready to build on their early-season success.

Before concluding the interview, Lange took a moment to offer his condolences to the Roadrunners franchise and their quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. Lange reminisced about Rodgers as a solid locker-room presence during his early coaching days in the league, sending his thoughts and prayers to Albuquerque and the loss of Aaron. It’s a testament to the camaraderie and sportsmanship that runs deep in the heart of the league, reminding us all that football is more than just a game—it’s a community.
