Anchorage Commandos Rebound with Impressive Week 5 Win Over USMC

By Skye Walburg, Anchorage Dispatch

In a thrilling Week 5 showdown, the Anchorage Commandos left no doubt about their resilience and determination, bouncing back from a Week 4 loss to Des Moines with a resounding 163.4-131.8 victory over the Los Angeles USMC. The Commandos showcased their strength and depth on the field, making a statement to their opponents and fans alike.

The game commenced on Thursday night, but the fireworks truly erupted on Sunday when the scoring came to life. Running back Travis Etienne stole the show, delivering a career-defining performance with over 180 scrimmage yards, 2 touchdowns, and a staggering 42.4 fantasy points. Etienne’s exceptional outing undoubtedly played a pivotal role in the Commandos’ success.

Not to be outdone, George Kittle, the Commandos’ star tight end, had a remarkable day, adding an additional three touchdowns to the team’s tally. Kittle’s contribution highlighted the Commandos’ offensive prowess and their ability to capitalize on opportunities.

Despite the close odds leading up to the matchup, with Vegas indicating a mere 0.07-point differential, the Commandos made it abundantly clear why they are regarded as one of the league’s elite teams. Their well-rounded performance and strategic execution underscored their position among the NAFC’s top contenders.

However, the win came at a price, as star wide receiver Justin Jefferson suffered an injury during the game. Nursing a hamstring injury, the Commandos made the tough decision to place Jefferson on injured reserve, sidelining him for a minimum of the next four games. The loss of Jefferson is undoubtedly significant, as he has been a cornerstone of the Commandos’ offense and a source of numerous game-changing plays.

Owner Peter Stevens acknowledged the challenges of replacing a talent like Jefferson, stating, “You can’t replace the talent Jefferson brings to the team. He has been our anchor. We expect Mike Evans to step up as the team’s X receiver.”

As the Commandos move forward, they will face the challenge of adjusting to life without Jefferson and relying on the talents of other key players like Mike Evans. This victory, coupled with the injury setback, will undoubtedly test the team’s mettle as they strive to maintain their standing among the league’s elite. The Commandos’ journey in the NAFC continues, and fans eagerly anticipate their response to this critical juncture in the season.
