The California Rebels kicked off the 2024 NAFC season in style, dropping their fifth championship banner in front of a roaring home crowd and extending their banner-night winning streak to 6-0 with a convincing 155.1-105.9 victory over the Des Moines Raiders.

Celebrating their 2023 title, the Rebels leaned heavily on their veteran stars to secure the win. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes (16.5 points) led the way as expected, while wide receivers Tyreek Hill (26.0 points) and Chris Godwin (22.3 points) lit up the scoreboard, showcasing the high-powered offense that’s become synonymous with the franchise. Running back James Conner also made crucial contributions, grinding out tough yards to keep the chains moving for the defending champions.

Early in the contest, however, it looked like the Raiders might spoil the party. Wide receiver Rashee Rice and running back Josh Jacobs helped Des Moines to a promising start, with quarterback Anthony Richardson delivering a standout performance of 27.6 fantasy points, throwing three touchdowns and giving the Raiders a fighting chance.

But the game’s turning point came from two key positions. Evan Engram, who led all tight ends in receptions last season for Des Moines, had a quiet game, managing just one catch for five yards, a disappointing output for the Raiders in a critical spot. On the other side, the Rebels’ defense came up big. The Chicago Bears defense single-handedly swung momentum with two defensive touchdowns and three forced turnovers, accounting for a game-changing 27 fantasy points.

By the end, the Rebels cruised to victory, setting the tone for the season as they led all teams in Week 1 with the highest point total. With another banner raised to the rafters and another win secured, the Rebels appear ready to defend their title in 2024.

Looking ahead, the Rebels will travel to Montana to face the Wombats in Week 2, while the Raiders will look to bounce back as they host the Atlantic City Aces in a crucial matchup for their season hopes.
