Leathernecks Barely Survive Thriller in Albuquerque: A Week 4 Recap

By Marty Beets, Sports Journalist, Seattle Times

In a Week 4 showdown that had Seattle Leathernecks fans biting their nails and fantasy football managers on the edge of their seats, the favored Leathernecks narrowly escaped the Albuquerque Roadrunners’ clutches with a 112.3-110.0 victory. The game, which saw Seattle’s 8.3-point favoritism by Vegas, ended with a sigh of relief for the Leathernecks but left room for some much-needed introspection.

With this victory, the Leathernecks move to a respectable 3-1 record, while the Roadrunners continue to search for their first win of the season, now standing at 0-4.

Despite the win, Seattle’s performance was far from impressive in Week 4. Star players like Tyreek Hill, Tua Tagovailoa, and rookie sensation Tank Dell all failed to live up to expectations, leaving fans with furrowed brows and a sense of unease. However, amidst the underwhelming showing, two shining lights emerged to keep the Leathernecks’ hopes alive.

Firstly, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk stepped up in a big way, contributing 20.8 valuable fantasy points to lead the team. His performance proved crucial in securing the narrow victory.

Secondly, the Roadrunners’ questionable coaching decision to bench tight end Cole Kmet turned out to be a game-changer. Kmet managed to find the end zone not once but twice while riding the pine. Had he been in the starting lineup, the outcome could have been drastically different.

After the game, we caught up with Seattle Leathernecks Owner Nathan Simmons, who is set to tie the knot next weekend. When asked about the potential distraction of his impending wedding, Simmons remained focused on the task at hand, stating, “I will always focus on fantasy.” However, I, Marty Beets couldn’t resist a playful jab, asking if he’d be too engrossed in fantasy football to say, “I do.” Simmons laughed it off, assuring everyone that his future wife understands his commitment to the team.

Simmons seems more concerned with beating the Montana Wombats than his own wedding, and that dedication is undeniable. His disappointment with Wombats’ GM Tim Longwood’s RSVP response only adds fuel to the fire.

Following the heart-stopping victory against ABQ, Coach JJ Johnson shared his thoughts with the media, saying, “Time to bury whatever the hell their new mascot is, six feet under.” This comment may have been a playful jab at the Montana Wombats’ live mascot, Scrappy the Wombat III, but it certainly added some intrigue to the upcoming matchup.

In closing, we wish Nathan and Katelyn the very best in their upcoming marriage. And as for the Seattle Leathernecks, it’s clear that they are focused on their mission to conquer the Montana Wombats. As the saying goes, “Roll Necks!”
