The Commissioner’s Power Rankings: Week 2

Written by Commish

Week 1 of the NAFC season delivered plenty of excitement, including a few surprises and dominant performances. With division records being the primary tiebreaker, followed by head-to-head matchups and total points, here’s how the teams stack up heading into Week 2:

1. California Rebels (1-0)

  • Points For: 155.1
  • Points Against: 105.9
  • Division Record: 0-0
  • Previous Ranking: 3 (+2)

The defending champions started their season with a bang, leading all teams in points. The veteran leadership of Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill paved the way for a commanding win over the Raiders, and their high-powered offense shows no signs of slowing down.

2. Burlington Boss Hogs (1-0)

  • Points For: 152.8
  • Points Against: 139.8
  • Division Record: 0-0
  • Previous Ranking: 6 (+4)

The Boss Hogs kicked off the season with a win against Anchorage, thanks to Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley combining for a massive 60.5 points. With one of the most well-rounded rosters, they are poised to stay near the top of the rankings.

3. El Paso Red Devils (1-0)

  • Points For: 143.6
  • Points Against: 112.8
  • Division Record: 0-0
  • Previous Ranking: 5 (+2)

El Paso started strong against USMC, with solid contributions across the board. Kyren Williams and Rachaad White formed a dynamic backfield, while their wide receiver duo of CeeDee Lamb and Mike Evans looks to be one of the best in the league.

4. Moscow Black Bears (1-0)

  • Points For: 135.4
  • Points Against: 96.6
  • Division Record: 1-0
  • Previous Ranking: 4 (0)

The Black Bears sent a message by handing Seattle their first loss of the season. Their air attack, led by CJ Stroud, and a strong showing from Breece Hall made them look like early division favorites. Moscow is back on track after a disappointing 2023 campaign.

5. Atlantic City Aces (1-0)

  • Points For: 118.8
  • Points Against: 90.6
  • Division Record: 0-0
  • Previous Ranking: 1 (-4)

Snapping a 12-game losing streak, the Aces showed resilience in their win over the Montana Wombats. Kenneth Walker stood out with 24.9 points, and while the Aces weren’t perfect, they are already looking like a much-improved squad from 2023.

6. Albuquerque Roadrunners (1-0)

  • Points For: 114.0
  • Points Against: 95.5
  • Division Record: 1-0
  • Previous Ranking: 2 (-4)

Despite a win against the Oilers, the Roadrunners dropped in the rankings due to a lackluster offensive showing compared to the other top teams. Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs played well, but they will need more consistent performances from their supporting cast to stay competitive.

7. Anchorage Commandos (0-1)

  • Points For: 139.8
  • Points Against: 152.8
  • Division Record: 0-0
  • Previous Ranking: 9 (+2)

The Commandos had a solid outing in their loss to the Boss Hogs but couldn’t keep up with Burlington’s offense. Anchorage still boasts one of the stronger rosters in the league and should be considered a strong threat in the Frontier Division moving forward.

8. Des Moines Raiders (0-1)

  • Points For: 105.9
  • Points Against: 155.1
  • Division Record: 0-0
  • Previous Ranking: 10 (+2)

The Raiders faced the tough task of trying to spoil the Rebels’ banner night and came up short. Richardson looked solid in his debut, but the rest of the team couldn’t keep pace. Des Moines needs to step up on both sides of the ball if they want to stay competitive.

9. Los Angeles USMC (0-1)

  • Points For: 112.8
  • Points Against: 143.6
  • Division Record: 0-0
  • Previous Ranking: 7 (-2)

Lamar Jackson’s strong performance wasn’t enough for the Marines to overcome the Red Devils. First-round pick Amon-Ra St. Brown struggled, and LA will need more consistent production from their stars to get into the win column.

10. Austin Oilers (0-1)

  • Points For: 95.5
  • Points Against: 114.0
  • Division Record: 0-1
  • Previous Ranking: 11 (+1)

The Oilers couldn’t get it done against the Roadrunners, and Ja’Marr Chase’s contract distractions seem to be affecting his performance. With a struggling running back group, they’ll need to make quick adjustments to avoid a disappointing season.

11. Seattle Heist (0-1)

  • Points For: 96.6
  • Points Against: 135.4
  • Division Record: 0-1
  • Previous Ranking: 8 (-3)

Seattle’s inaugural game as the “Heist” began on a sour note. While their three-headed backfield showed promise, Kirk Cousins’ poor performance and DK Metcalf’s slow start leave Seattle with major question marks heading into Week 2.

12. Montana Wombats (0-1)

  • Points For: 90.6
  • Points Against: 118.8
  • Division Record: 0-0
  • Previous Ranking: 12 (0)

The Wombats put up a lackluster performance against the Aces, failing to capitalize on Baker Mayfield’s big game. Coach Barry Smowck is on the hot seat, and unless the Wombats can turn things around quickly, this could be a long season in Montana.

Key Matchups to Watch in Week 2:

  • California Rebels vs. Montana Wombats: Can Montana pull off an upset, or will the Rebels continue their dominance?
  • El Paso Red Devils vs. Anchorage Commandos: Two talented teams looking to prove they belong in the top tier.
